Daffodil Room

At Snapethorpe Primary School, our Daffodil Room is a sensory circuit provision designed to support children’s emotional regulation, sensory needs and readiness for learning. Through a structured sequence of alerting, organising and calming activities, children are helped to achieve the right level of focus and regulation so they can successfully access learning in the classroom.

The Daffodil Room provides a safe, predictable and nurturing environment for pupils who may experience sensory processing differences, difficulties with attention and concentration, anxiety, autism, ADHD or emotional regulation challenges. Activities are carefully planned to develop motor skills, body awareness, confidence and self-regulation strategies while promoting independence and wellbeing.

As part of our inclusive approach, the Daffodil Room helps remove barriers to learning, supports pupils to manage overwhelming feelings, and enables them to return to class calm, focused and ready to achieve. By meeting children's individual needs in a proactive way, we help every child thrive both academically and emotionally.

Daffodil Room – Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Daffodil Room?

The Daffodil Room is our sensory circuit provision at Snapethorpe Primary School. It provides a structured, supportive environment where children can take part in sensory activities designed to help them regulate their emotions, improve concentration and prepare for learning.

What is a sensory circuit?

A sensory circuit is a series of activities that follow three stages:

  • Alerting activities to wake up and energise the body.
  • Organising activities to improve focus, coordination and body awareness.
  • Calming activities to help children feel settled and ready to learn.

Who can access the Daffodil Room?

The Daffodil Room may be accessed by children who would benefit from additional sensory support. This may include pupils who experience difficulties with attention, emotional regulation, sensory processing, anxiety, autism, ADHD, or who need support to become ready for learning.

How does the Daffodil Room support learning?

The provision helps children to regulate their sensory and emotional needs so that they can return to class feeling calm, focused and ready to engage in learning. By reducing barriers to learning, children are better able to participate in classroom activities and achieve success.

Activities may include balance and coordination exercises, movement-based activities, obstacle courses, heavy work activities, calming sensory experiences and relaxation techniques. These activities are tailored to meet the needs of individual pupils.

How often will my child attend?

Attendance is based on individual need and may range from a daily sensory circuit to targeted sessions at specific times of the day. School staff regularly review the impact of support and adapt provision accordingly.

Sensory circuits can help children to:

  • Improve attention and concentration.
  • Develop coordination and motor skills.
  • Increase self-regulation and emotional wellbeing.
