Autumn 2

Maths

This half term the children in Reception are focusing on: numbers and amounts to 5, singing counting rhymes and exploring ideas of shape, space and measure within our areas of provision.

Literacy

In Literacy, we will  continue our phonics learning of the Phase 2 sounds and some tricky words.  We will be focusing on  practicing to write our name. To coincide with our phonics we will look at writing initial sounds of words and begin to write words. Our books of the week will include: The Gingerbread Man, Owl Babies and Super Duper Me.

Reading

We will send reading books related to the Little Wandle Phonic scheme, home with the children on Friday. You need to return these books by Wednesday. Please read every night with your child and sign their reading record. Please look at the book with your child and encourage them to tell the story asking questions as they read it. You can also help your child learn the new words and sounds in their book.

Curriculum

This half term our them is ‘What Makes Me Special?’ where we will be thinking about the different people who are in our family and also any other special people that we have in our lives. Linking to Science we will be thinking about how we have changed since we were babies and also identifying our different body parts and the importance of oral hygiene. The children will be encouraged to learn alongside and with their peers in order to form positive relationships and develop their personal, social and communication skills.

R.E

Reception will be learning about ‘Which Times are Special and Why?’ We will be asking the children to discuss any event that they have attended and why they think it was special. We will also be discussing different celebrations and how they celebrate at home.  If  you would like to share any photos with us we would be happy to see them.

General Information

In EYFS, we are always working on our personal, social and emotional skills, aiming to  improve our sharing and turn taking abilities. We are also learning to look after each other and our environment whilst building our self confidence to make us resilient, happy learners.

Each week we spend time working on our speaking and listening skills, talking about things we have done, places we have been, or using a picture as a stimulus to talk about, to build our vocabulary and ensuring that we speak in full sentences.

As we head into Winter, we ask that your child brings a warm coat, hat, gloves and a scarf to school as we learn outdoors whatever the weather and we want your child to be warm and comfortable.

Please can all of  these items be named to ensure your child brings them back home with them.

Please ensure your child’s jumper, cardigan, coat and shoes are labelled with your child’s name to ensure your child brings their items back home with them.

Ways to help your child

The Reception school day starts at 8.35am and  finishes at 3.05pm.

Attendance is very important for the children’s learning, please ensure your child is at school for the start of the school day.

Make sure they bring their book bag and reading book every day

Please note that the children have continual access to fresh clean  water in their own named bottles and are offered a healthy snack and milk in the  morning so there is no need to bring water bottles into school.

Please note that children are not permitted to bring toys or teddies into school as these can get broken or lost and we don't want the children to get upset if this happens.
